Here are the world's top five most-visited cities, according to Forbes.

  1. Bangkok, Thailand – With nearly 21.5 million overnight visitors per year, Bangkok is the world's reigning title-holder when it comes to most-visited cities. The Thai capital draws tourists from all over the globe to soak up the city's spiritual, cultural and architectural splendor. It's also a popular choice for those looking for seriously lively nightlife.
  2. London, United Kingdom – The draw of the River Thames is as powerful as ever. To prove it, nearly 20 million visitors made overnight treks to London in 2016. Despite the fact that its lower on the list than Bangkok, London drew in $2 billion more in tourism. Visitors traveled to London mainly from Dublin, New York, Stockholm, Amsterdam and Frankfurt.
  3. Paris, France – 18 million overnight tourists make the trip to the City of Light annually, proving that this romantic destination is still a top-level choice for travelers from around the globe. The Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau reported that the most-visited Parisian sites are, unsurprisingly, the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe.
  4. Singapore – Over 15 million overnight visitors travel to this sovereign Southeast Asia city-state, and for good reason. Citing casinos, medical tourism and a bustling food scene, this region is sure to become an even more popular travel destination for both Western and Eastern travelers in the coming years.
  5. New York City, United States – NYC & Company, the official destination marketing organization for New York City, reports that 58.5 million travelers visited New York City in 2015. With roughly 12.75 million overnight visitors per year, NYC is still the highest-earning of the top five cities, drawing in more than $18 billion per year in tourism.
